🔒 James Durbin - Stay or Go?

All,

Since this was brought up in the forums, we'll kick off the stay or go with James Durbin, 'The Idol Guy'...

What are the arguments for, or against him? Should he stay, go, or be on the station in a request only status?

Sound off!
Go.

I apprecaite the rock effort, but the songs I have heard are just a bit too post-grunge (best phrase I can think of) for the format here. Decent tunes, but not a fit.
I feel he should have never been added. Yes some "80's" artists are on the album assisting him and yes during his Idol run he sang killer jams but the album is more Nickelback than a fit on this station. Buckcherry would fit better and I would not want them here either.
Go. Skulls and 314 are right.
I agree. Go
I think some of the arguments posed could be applied to many of the artists on here, so I'm not sure if that is opening up a whole new can of worms....

At any rate I am not a big fan, but someone else might be. I don't see how leaving him as Request Only would hurt.
He most definitely should get the hook. Personally, I don't find much difference between him and choad kroeger.
Not a fan and haven???t heard anything that really fits the mix here.

My vote would be to wish him well and say buh-bye.
Go

I think the whole point of this will be to open a can of worms :) The whole point is what really doesn't fit?

Ultimately, we'll address that question with a lot of artists. PM me with suggestions for the next artist to consider...Heck..Maybe I should do a thread of all the artists on the station so if there are other questionable ones, we can open that can on them, too

I think that's the point... to open that can!

Anyway, the good thing about James Durbin is that I haven't actually had to hear him in a long time. I say get rid of him.

EDIT: Apparently I've got some lag on my system, because that's the second time in a row I've posted only to find 3 people posted before me!
But where do you stop was really my point. Ok, so it is decided that some artists do not belong here. What about particular albums, or particular songs on albums? Do you really wanna go there? ;)

I wanted to put ZZTop on the site - Eliminator, Afterburner, Recycler all fit and deep cuts rock but I was out voted so they were not added.

I think we need to 'thin the heard' with artists first. If we still think we need to tweak, we can do specific albums (and debate if St. Anger belong on here, etc)? ..those kinds of discussions can happen, but I think it's easiest to start with artists and see where that goes...

Anyway, I see this as we trim some artists. We potentially add some. Then we tweak what's left.
BOOM..OUTA HERE!!!

This is an opportunity to re-visit those discussions too. In the coming days you may see a thread for Zeppelin, ZZTop, Pat Travers, etc...
Here is my main point. This station and website is called Hardrockin80s.com. Not HR80sandbeyond.com or allthingsmetal.com or totalmetalradio.com.

If this station and website was called weplayanythingmetal.com then i have zero beef with anything played on here.

However, its not. Just about everyone who has posted today said they came here because of the 80's music but were glad to find some of the new stuff that they may not have found anywhere else. If its the 80s that brings them, its the 80's that will keep them, IMHO, and its because of the wealth of 80s music on here from all across the globe from all different sub-genre's.

No you do not start pulling songs from an album because that song may not fit. Not many can argue that Shandy from Kiss Unmasked (i think) is a hard rock or metal song at all but other stuff on the album would be.

You could argue that while Bon Jovi could be considered as a hard rock band, his album oh what is it...the country thing he did....certainly would not belong on here because thats the entire album.

We have done it before with certain albums. St. Anger comes to mind. I dont know right off if its on the station now or not but for a long time when it came out we refused to put it on here because, frankly, it sucked so yes, entire albums have been decided on before.

Back in the day it was me, Chris, Flame and Rayzor Ray (God rest his soul) putting the music on here and each of us were vastly different but it was pretty much all 80's music. Flame did find some far out stuff from parts of the world i have never heard of but it fit the station.

As for new stuff, there are still a great deal of 80's bands that are still putting out new music. Most of the Def Leppard past Hysteria, to me, sucks donkey balls, but i would not deny them on here so its not like there is no new music from the 80's bands so thats why we have to go out and find new music from bands most of us never heard of.

Unless the station was called wewillplayanything.com

But that is YOUR interpretation of the meaning. I take and always took it since finding the site in 2004 that it was a style term. By your definition all the 70's stuff and the part of the heyday up to 1992 would all go away and we'd be left with a catalog about 6500 songs. Thats about how the site had when I became a member.

BORING!

Bring back OSMS and maybe some other "shows" to break it up.
Mission accomplished Chris

B)

No to Josh Durbin.

EDIT: That's no to JAMES Durbin...Josh, if you're out there, sorry bro!
I downloaded the CD and listened to it a few times. It didn't really blow me away.
