> What's not classic about a killer German early 80's heavy metal band? I know I can not here it on Sirius or Main Stream Radio which is WHAT HR80s is here for. Playing the same clear channel crap over and over. I love Ozzy but man can I not also hear a band like Railway? Just because you have never heard of it does not make it a 3 or 4...I never heard of Ciruth Ungol before I found the site but if the ratings existed back when I did join the fun I would have not heard them then either. The ratings suck plain and simple. What needs to happen is a little less NEW POWER METAL needs to not be put into SAM but get rid of the ratings before the station loses its coolness.

Here we go again. :(

Compairing a clear channel rock station to HR80s is beyond assine.
Example: KLOS in Los Angeles has 1 Scorpions song in their data base. How many Scorpions songs does HR80's have? Answer: 303
Sirius XM is a little better. We would be lucky to get 20 different Scorpions songs on Hairnation and the Boneyard combined.

HR80s does deep with the Classio bands, but it also plays the obscure stuff. The rating system was put into place so that the obscure stuff doesn't dominate the station. Well, that's my understanding anyway.

Breath!!!!!

 Look who ignored the facts and then tried to change the subject. Is this my 6 year son f*cking with me?

Dale, do you live in fantasyland? 80% of 15,000 songs that can be heard anywhere? You do live in fantasyland don't you.

What Clear Channel Classic Rock station has a 15,000 song playlist? I'll give the answer. ZERO!

What Clear Channel Classic Rock station has a 10,000 song playlist? I'll give the answer. ZERO!

What Clear Channel Classic Rock station has a 5,000 song playlist? I'll give the answer. ZERO!

What Clear Channel Classic Rock station has a 1,000 song playlist? I'll give the answer. ZERO!

The Sirius XM's Hairnation and the Boneyard playlists aren't even at 1,000.

By radio standards, 15,000 songs would be an ultra-deep playlist.

HR80's has over 50,000 songs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Enjoy the channel!

Hey Mark - go suck a dick! In fact go suck Eddie Trunks dick since he is your wet dream. What a pathetic loser man.

It's my fucking opinion and just like politics there is no right answer. And yes when I found the site it had 8000 songs. I added 30,000 to that library. And with the ratings restrictions we have 15,000 unrestricted options (it is an estimate not fact to keep it simple for your immature mind).

So whatever the rest of your ignorant typing is about I do not know. Again my opinion and apparently you can not accept anyone else opinion. But of course you think Butch Walker has any place on the site outside of playing bass and writing songs on the classic albums from South Gang.

Go to sleep Dale you're not making any sense and you can't take a joke. It's pointless debating you.

Good Night!

It is not my intent to pour gasoline on this fire, but the problem with the ratings system (as I see it) is the Scorpions, like any band with a large catalog, have many obscure songs themselves. But because the Scorps are rated a 1 (I presume) you can request those obscure songs to your hearts content.

It is still my opinion that the best ratings system is the one that has been in place all along - the stars. Songs rated a 10 are played much more often than a song rated a 5. Songs rated below a 5 should hardly be heard at all (as played by SAM). If you think a song is played too often (rated a 9 or 10) simply lower your personal rating to reduce the song's overall rating.

This way you avoid obscure songs rated a 1 because the band is rated that way. It's also a good system for bands that have changed their style over the years (i.e. Bon Jovi, D.A.D., etc.).

SAM's on top of it, although Tuesday has just started (or is SAM located in Australia?).
Folks - We all want a quality station here that lets you hear great music. I understand that the majority of us here are either music geeks by default, or those that stick around will become some sort of music geek and crave to hear more new (to them) music and different stuff. I want the station to get to playing quality music, whether it's from the 80s, 90's or 00's. The focus should be on the 80s and a certain set of core bands/songs should be played here.

That being said: If we have differing opinions on certain artists, songs, genres, etc. Try to not make it personal against each other. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the passion you all have about music. We can all have different opinions on thing WITHOUT attacking each other...

Please, let's leave those personal attacks off the site. In my best Rodney King: Can't we all just get along? ... Ok... Have a nice cold one and take a deep breath. :beerme:

I am the first to acknowledge the ratings are less than perfect. I would also say the ratings don't stop anyone from requesting songs. They may, however, delay a request, but it doesn't remove the ability to request music...

Anyway, I digress...I'm not writing to defend or explain the artist ratings anymore.

I really do like Lab's idea of user song ratings determining the requestability of songs - that lets the community decide what should be requestable. That would, in theory, allow the shittier songs (regardless of artist) to be requested only soo often, if ever. However, I think there also needs to be a certain number of user ratings before affecting the ability to request. So there would need to be some sort of a consensus (ie 5 or more different user ratings for a particular song) before the rating would be come effective. Does that make sense? That way one or two people cannot dictate what is and isn't requestable.

That being said, here are the bigger things on my To-Do list:
- Mobile App (iOS version to be submitted, but would like someone with the laqrger screen ipod/iphone to test as I haven't been able to confirm a test on one of those devices.). I may take that rist and submit anyway without that testing.
- Make a system to view requests as part of the user's profile. Stats on number of requests, top artists, etc. Something when you view a profile could see at a glance what artists, genre's they request, etc
- Convert current artist ratings system to a per song based system
- Convert site to new, more secure version of our website framework. A more seemless mobile experience to allow viewing user profiles, requests, etc. Basically, if you can do it on the full site, I want it to be able to be done on the mobile site.
- Continue to add in music that our contributors have done such a great job of submitting.
- Ability to 'Like' dedications and perhaps even have discussion threads like message boards for dedications (this is very complex and is lowest on the list)

Please note that I do this for the love of the music and the community here. I pay a fair amount out each month to keep this thing going and try to work on these things as time allows. I also don't mind reminders or nudges if updates are few and far between.

Anyway...I know I was all over the place with that post, but to summarize:
1) Stop personal attacks.
2) I'm open to removing the ratings and moving that to another system and will start working on that now. That may take time. Please be patient.
3) There's a lot of things on my near term to do list that I want to get done, time permitting.

phew....Thanks for reading this...Thanks for listening to the station, and for being a part of the community!
Guys??? we all love this genre of music. That???s why we gather here daily???. Some of us have made HR80s a part of their workday for nearly a decade. We have a sense of camaraderie??? different taste in music yes??? but that???s what makes The Crew work and makes the mix interesting. The issue of the ratings systems has deteriorated that sense of camaraderie ??? just look at some of the most recent posts.

I???m confident Chris is doing his best to balance the mix of music that gets played, added and limited. Busting each others??? balls over it isn???t the answer.

Maybe I???m not as passionate as others??? I just roll with it and I???m grateful I have a place like HR80s that I can tune into everyday to make my long days at work more tolerable.

Crank it up.
Peace out.

That makes sense, but it still amazes me how many songs that have no, or very few, ratings. A great motivator to get people to rate might be hearing a song over and over!
I should have refreshed the page to see Chris??? comments before posting... make the above a bit moot.
Make a system to view requests as part of the user's profile. Stats on number of requests, top artists, etc. Something when you view a profile could see at a glance what artists, genre's they request, etc

That`s a great idea, sometimes I don't have time to go look for a song/band someone requested, so it's impossible to learn new songs /bands, this way I can look back at requesters profiles and listen to the song again on youtube or add it to my requesting list.
All New Music! should be available for request for at least a month.
This is the math formula required to calculate requests based on number of song plays, user preferences, scale from 1 ??? 5, etc.

Requestformula.jpg

Or you could just request songs once every two hours. Simple fucking formula. God forbid you hear the same band twice in one day!

People don???t believe what you tell them. They rarely believe what you show them. They often believe what their friends tell them. They always believe what they tell themselves.
