> What is with all the covers this afternoon? The Queensryche cover of "Neon Knights" was pretty good, but a couple of these really bite. I'd much rather hear the original in most situations. I really hate the re-recordings of songs. Maybe I'm in the minority opinion here.

Unfortunately you are in the minority. Some listeners have taken it upon themselves to make certain days "theme" days. I, for one, would rather leave it as open requests, or else you start to scrape the bottom of the barrel and play Mr. Sandman. Regular radio is bad enough with their regimented programming. We don't need it here.

As for the covers I agree a lot with your sentiments. A song is usually covered because it is a classic. So why does someone else think they can do it better? Some are good, as I mentioned earlier Gary Hoey has a couple of amazing ones. But overall, I think most do not do justice to the originals.

I guess my question to the two of you is this:

Who are you? Neither of you are logged on very often.

If you have paid attention over, say, the last six months you'd know that we have a cover day one day a month. Is that really cutting into your schedule? We're trying to avoid having the same format here every single day. Other than all 80's day, the balance of the month is whatever you want.

Don't feel like you have to request cover songs today, but plan on hearing your request surrounded by covers.
What does it matter who I am? And, as a matter of fact I am logged on almost every day, and I have been for a year or so.

Why are you people so defensive about your little club? The dude just asked why so many covers were being played, and I filled him in. He gave his opinion and I added mine too.

Having open requests isn't a format. Certain theme days is. Your statement makes no sense. :?

And Duh314man, go stick you head in an oven. Oh that's right, you do that every day.
Who am I? I'm someone who listens to the station all the time for a couple years, but I just don't post much. I didn't realize today was "cover day" as you put it.

As for who I am personally, I wrote a book on heavy metal called "Metal Generation" where in one section, I totally persecute bands for writing an entire record of covers as well as all the tribute albums. The members of certain bands (that are played on here) who have read the book seem to think I have a point with my opinions on the subject. Covers have become an epidemic where some musicians do the tributes because they are bankrupt on original ideas for their own bands. If they can make a cover sound original and fresh, then I commend them. But to see Tesla re-record "Signs" again. That's them doing a cover or their cover!!! Isn't that a little pathetic? What about Stephen Pearcy who keeps re-recording old Ratt and Arcade songs and they are inferior to the original. What's the point of that?

I only post when I disagree with something or feel like touching on a subject. I find that there is enough in the library to keep it interesting without having to play all covers or whatever theme, but I'll try to get in the spirit by trying to accept it for what it is. But, I won't play a cover unless it is something unique like "Secret Agent Man" by Hittman (which isn't on here).

At least I know you are paying attention...thanks!

Open request is a format. It's called the open request format.

As far as being logged on every day, I think you're confusing HR80's with something else. A few times a day I'll gander at who is logged on so I know what requests are coming. I rarely see either of you listed as members logged on.

Congrats on your book, but I must have missed that printing. You sound like an analyst. Gee, just what this country needs more of....
And Darryl, correct me if I am wrong here, but did either one of us say we didn't like Cover Day? We both only stated that we like the originals better.

I don't get why you people are so quick to get your panties in a bunch.
I agree. If it's cover day, then fine. I'll listen along and try to get into it for what is, but I just don't like resorting to suggesting covers when there are thousands of other songs out there to request. Lizzy Borden's "Don't Touch Me There" is the last song I'd play in his catalog. I'd go for "Notorious" or "Psychopath" (although they aren't covers). If I had to play a cover by him it would be "Live and Let Die". This sounds like a bad leftover from Rocky Horror Picture Show or Meatloaf.

No Turbo you are confused. I joined in June of 2007, have 60 some posts and over 600 points. I may not be always logged on, but I'm tuned in every week day.

Blah blah blah...

Go git the stick, boy!

I got tired of the 1 request every two hours, so I joined the site as a member just a week ago or so. I was a member a year and a half ago, but got busy writing, so I didn't have as much time to be active. I had no idea my cover post would cause so much controversy.

Another intelligent remark.

How about those Yankees. Out of the cellar yet?
Not yet. I'll let you know when you log back on in 3 weeks...
Seems we got a pissin' match on our hands...

I agree that there are way too many crappy tribute albums being put out these days. I try to pick covers that are in some way special, where the band puts an interesting twist on the original or just adds their own flavor so to speak. Once in a while I'll pull something off a tribute album if I haven't heard it before or I really like it.

All in all, covers day (as well as 80s day, etc.) is just a fun way for everyone to play songs that fit a particular theme and perhaps dig a little deeper and play something they wouldn??????????????????t normally play. No one??????????????????s going to complain if someone wants to play something outside of the theme though.

BTW, I really like Lizzy Borden??????????????????s cover of ????????????…???Don??????????????????t Touch Me There??????????????. :P
Keir, I'm getting a little more in tune with what you are doing. My original post was just that I couldn't figure out why all the songs were covers. I got it now. Makes sense and I'll try to listen with an open mind. I will admit that there have been several decent coves. "Easy Living" by WASP is very cool, but their version of "Paint it Black" is also good.

The Lizzy Borden/Bitch cover bothered me because back in '87 when that EP came out, I remember being so excited about it because I was such a huge Lizzy fan and that whole EP disappointed me, so I can't move past it 21 years later. Pretty sad on my part.
Anyone else having trouble hearing music today? I guess I need to make sure I can hear before I request...
Digging the Whitesnake tune, but does it slightly remind anyone else of the Allmans' 'Whipping Post' ? Not the whole thing, of course, but especially the beginning.

Nice! Liking what I have heard off this....I just bought this album off Ebay for a few and have it showing up with the Artillery album I got also. Can't wait until the package shows up in the mail later this week!
I think I had heard Warriors of Time and Shockwave soooo much that when the album arrived it was hard to check out the other songs as they initially did not measure up to those 2 tracks....now that some time has passed I am cranking the entire album and it is solid from start to finish...their metallica cover is great.
