> Jani could have used that talent for better stuff if he would just have accepted the decline of metal in the early 90's, kept himself clean, and moved on.

I think there was one other thing going on in the background too. Jani was married to the Cherry Pie girl from the video named Bobbi Brown. She left him for Tommy Lee (who left her for Pamela Anderson) and I think Jani sort of lost himself slowly after that. His lyrics grew more bitter with each album. You can hear him battling his feelings in his lyrics for the song "Stronger Now", but I think it sort of led to his destruction, as a person and performer. I feel bad for the guy in that way, but as DD said, I don't feel sorry for all the money he continues to make on the back catalog of songs he wants to forget.
I agree with you there. Speaking of Bobbi Brown, I was good and liquored up at an LA bar in the mid 90's and hit on her. Funny stuff... my friends were laughing their asses off at me when she didn't give me the time of day until I reminded them about who had the guts to give it a try

Fun times!

I also know a guy who is friends with Jani so I know more about how hard he struggles with stuff (and that's all I'll say about it)
thanks for the Crue Andie!!

Welcome!!

I thought it was a great block, except someone thinks I "cheated" with the RE-action from Bonfire

What does he know???

ahhh, i guess now we know who it was
> I, for one, think Jani Lane is full of it in that interview on VH1. I think he's distorting the truth on that fact. Lyrics on songs like "Bed of Roses", "Love in Stereo", "Mr. Rainmaker, and "I Saw Red", are just as commercial as the "Cherry Pie" title. I think if it had been called "Uncle Tom's Cabin", it wouldn't have made any sense because that was the only heavy metal song on the album. The rest was commercial hard rock. Athough UTC is one of my all-time fave Warrant songs, it seems a bit out of place on that record. Anyone who saw them in '91 like I did, knows that they were very much dialed in to the whole image and commercial rock thing. He was onstage wearing these suspenders and American Flag shorts and it was very much on the Poison/Winger side. I think following the success of "Uncle Tom's Cabin", he then realized he could be a legitimate metal guy, and not a Bret Michael's wannabe. That's why Dog Eat Dog was such a heavy album and he gave up the glam look. That's just my opinion.

> I love the album "Cherry Pie" to this day, but my belief is that the record company might have encouraged them to write the song "Cherry Pie" to get a hit, but I doubt the album was ever going to be called "Uncle Tom's Cabin". How would that have tied in to the rest of the material on the album?

I would have to disagree with your opinon on this one. As song structure goes there is nothing commercial about those other songs. I mean no more than any other hard rock band. The tounge and cheek nature of Cherry Pie is not carried through the rest of the album.

I agree here - the rest is so much better than that song. It is hard for me to pick one fave from the rest on this lp.
I'll help you narrow it down. "You're the Only Hell Your Mama Ever Raised", "Mr. Rainmaker", "Song and Dance Man" and "Uncle Tom's Cabin" are four you could make a case for.

i think it's to spend a few days requesting these songs!
Yes - maybe I should put them in alphebetical order - - hhhhmmmm

oh yes - and I Saw Red!!!
Met Scot Ian and his wife - who is Meatloaf's daughter - at a Scorpions show a few years back.
From: Rockhead

saw Ian at the Staples on La Cienega/18th Street about 4 years ago :)

I know, yippee, right? lol

oh yes - and I Saw Red!!!

And "Love in Stereo"

starting to see why this is my favorite album from those guys? Even the ballad "Blind Faith" I don't mind (and ballads usually make me want to puke my guts out)
Really diggin all the new music today... especially the Kamelot and Iced Earth.

I agree that song was different than a lot of the material there, but I thought "Love in Stereo" was very close to "Cherry Pie" for lyrical content. "Cherry Pie" just reminded me of "Loving Every Minute of It" by Loverboy for structure. I happen to like that song. I don't understand why most people struggle with it. It was a fun song that I think still holds up. I do think the music was commercial hard rock, but I love commercial hard rock (always have). I just think "UTC" would be categorized more as a metal song. Again, this is just my opinion. Good debate on this subject.
