OPEN LETTER TO CHRIS

Chris,

If you don’t want to run this website or add new music, then why not let someone else take over. Clearly Doc would be the person that could run this for you because without him this site would be screwed. You have a small army of long time members waiting in the wings to help you do this. Your long term absence leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. What are your intentions?
Thanks to everyone who thanked me and to my metal brothers that pushed the issue. I hear good things are on the horizon and I can't wait to see some new music and hopefully some back filling of the catalogue. I know some of you already have a lot uploaded. Release the Flood Gates!

Cheers!
Day Crew: this is my reply on Facebook: "50,000 + songs are not enough for a metalhead. HR80s has a strong loyal following and the Day Crew have managed to build real online friendships like no other site, but I agree with Ripper something has to be done. I'm slowly abandoning ship."
Crew,

Chris and I spoke last Thursday… not an email… an hour-long phone call. He is dedicated to improving the experience at HR80s. To do that, he is expanding my capabilities and has accepted the help offered by a few of members of the Crew.

Step one was accomplished over the weekend. We have added, and tested, a secure account approval process. Chris or I will approve every new account prior to the person being allowed to interact with the site. Yes… this is an anti-hater measure. Yes… he tried to make an account over the weekend and was denied… and Yes… he’s pissed and sent an email to Chris railing against this new step. Sucks to be the hater.

If he should slip under the wire, we have added two additional moderators that have the authority to take the trash out.

Step two will be a focus on new music. Chris and I will be working together to get the backlog of new music uploaded. There will be a learning curve on my part. Also, Chris is working to develop an interface that will allow users to push music right into the library. This will be a huge benefit, but again, this will take time to develop.

As new music is added, I will notify the HR80s Facebook page.

There is a known issue with the app. It’s about 6 years old and needs to be overhauled. The original developer has bailed… along with all the source code. To do this right, it needs to be done again. We are trying to find affordable ways to get this done.

Do we have a coder in da’ house? If so, please PM me.

The Tune In app that some have been using, that stopped working, is being addressed. Chris was unaware that Crew members were using this app. He received a blind email some time ago demanding verification that the site was paying the appropriate licensing fees. This was ignored because Chris had never heard of these people. Now that he is aware, is going to dig that up and find out what Tune In needs to keep HR80s playing.

That’s where we’re at as of today. Any additional questions or issues, please PM me.

As always, Rocké Diem!
Doc
Thanks Chris and Doc. I understand the commitment it takes to run a site like HR80s. Even though I'm not a backstage member, I would like to contribute new music to the site.

Jerry
This great news indeed. I've been around this site for 11 years now (I know, wow!) and have seen it at it's peak to it's lowest (the huge crash and music library dump a few years ago). I think there are two reasons most of us come here; 1) This site does indeed have the largest music library around, and having been on and off other sites, even recently, this is indeed a true statement, the library is deep. 2) The social interaction capabilities are a big part of it too. The ability to request and then ded (whether that be something funny, serious, a vent now and again, or a bit of music trivia) is always interesting to see. And the forums keep the the current music information flowing (I try and add stuff here quite a bit to keep the info up to par, hope this has helped keep things interesting).

As for music, I had quite a load of tunes in my folder, and I know I sound like a broken record (pun!) but I have not been able to get back in the FTP for months. I have the login info but it appears I have a setting or two that may still need adjusting. If anyone has the link (if it still exist on the site) of detail set up info for FTP access, please PM me. I certainly would like to see if my tunes are still out there for eventual upload, and I have, at least, another 10 albums to add.

Doc, again, thanks for status!

guestuser@11.hardrockin80s.com and all your albums are there - whether all should make it to the site is up for debate ;)
I can mention the FTP to Chris when we speak next. I actually need to write that down... my computer just stores and automatically references user and password so I don’t have to think.

We have quite a backlog to catch up on. As I said, there’s going to be a learning curve, but even a couple of albums a week will be progress. As I discussed with Chris, the big names will go up first.

A few that have new albums that instanly come to mind are:

Metallica
Megadeth
Anthrax
Def Leppard
Stryper
I know I have been largely absent as of late (work related responsibilities eat up a lot of time), but I'm more than willing to jump back in the fray.
Avantasia
Testament
Metal Church
Primal Fear
Death Angel
Prong
Striker
High Spirits
Hammerfall
Pretty Maids..........
This is exactly what I expressed to Chris... he’s got the support of the community he built! Thanks, Rocko.
and of course Ol Ripper will do what he can..besides Overwatch...
Even though I run my own station now, I still listen to HR80's from time to time and I can still have to the ability to float a lot of new releases your way. Now, that albums are starting to be added again. I will throw some new Hard Rock your way again.
