(from: Allmusic.com & band website) Crown of Thorns formed in 1991, because ‘we just kept bumping into each other on the tour circuit’. Micki Free (guitar, ex-Shalamar) and Jean Beauvoir ( vocals/guitar, ex-Plasmatics) assembled Crown Of Thorns with Michael Paige (bass) and Tony Thompson (drums, ex-Power Station). The first song they wrote together, ‘Hike It Up’, was the stand-out track on their debut mini-album. With production by Kiss’ Paul Stanley on five tracks, the collection was not released outside the UK, although the band did tour extensively. Thompson was replaced by Dave ‘Hawk’ Lopez, and Free (who released a solo album in 1995) by Tommy Lafferty. By 1995 Crown Of Thorns had yet to play their first concert in their native America, but in the UK, after making their debut at London’s Marquee in April 1994, they toured almost non-stop and supported Bon Jovi in selected concerts. Beauvoir, who turned down work with Prince and Michael Jackson, has also released solo albums and written songs for Kiss and John Waite. 1995 gave Crown Of Thorns the opportunity to show its stadium potential with new guitarist Tommy Lafferty, when Jean was asked by Jon Bon Jovi to be special guests to Bon Jovi and Van Halen for three months throughout all of Europe, playing to over a million people and with raving audience response. The band toured extensively mostly in Germany to sold out audiences, kicking ass as usual! Crown of Thorns recruited the talent of “Little Steven” Van Zandt from Bruce Springsteen’s E-street band for co-writing of 3 songs and Max Norman of Ozzy Osbourne/Megadeth fame to mix the album. The press called this album one of the best rock albums of the decade. For the past few years, Jean continued the quest of keeping Rock and Roll alive kicking as CEO and Managing Director of Renegade Nation – a company founded by chairman Little Steven Van Zandt of HBO’s “The Sopranos” and Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band fame. Meanwhile, he kept on writing new songs for Crown of Thorns and the right chance came when he connected with Frontiers Records in 2008 for the planning of the European release of a brand new album entitled “Faith”. Jean collaborated this time with Bob Clearmountain in the recording sessions, Mark Plati (David Bowie) for the mix and the result is probably the best sounding CofT album ever! The album “Faith” was released here in the US summer of 2009 through Sony Red.

They soon after headed back into the studio for the completion of their new album “Breakthrough”, that was released in early 1996 and raised even more eyebrows when the foursome headed back on the road to give their audiences an earful of their hard hitting yet melodic new material! The band toured extensively mostly in Germany to sold out audiences, kicking ass as usual! Soon after the touring assault, the writing began for the album “Lost Cathedral”. In came the millennium, which brought “Destiny Unknown” featuring 3 songs in Hollywood films then later “Karma” in 2002, which built on the foundations of the success of the previous record and allowed the band a great spotlight, particularly in the European market.

Jean collaborated this time with Bob Clearmountain (Bryan Adams, Rolling Stones, Bon Jovi, Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band) in the recording sessions, Mark Plati (David Bowie) for the mix and the result is probably the best sounding CofT album ever! “Faith” is an album that brings back the trademark Crown of Thorns sound as defined in the debut album and “Lost Cathedral”, still keeping intact all the elements of infectious guitar riffs, soaring hooklines and great melodies.
The album “Faith” was released here in the US summer of 2009 through Sony Red. The track “Rock Ready” from the album is featured in MTV’s ROCK BAND game and available for Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and Wii. The band performed in New York, Spain, Gothenberg and Sweden April 2011 and are currently preparing for the release of a new single which will be part of an EP. CofT is also booking more dates for 2011 and will begin the recording of a new album.
