Man, what the hell is going on in MLB? This is like the 5th guy hit in the head recently. Just watched a thing on ESPN about it yesterday asking if they should change the batting helmets because of the high incidences of this.

I know - I saw that too - this kid is only in AA ball, but there has been way too much - I agree.

I wouldn't say there are high incidences of bean balls and getting hit by line drives if you consider how many games are played every day. It just so happens there have been quite a few in the last week.
Kind of like plane crashes. Statistically it is very safe. Statistically speaking about baseball, considering the number of pitches thrown and balls hit, I would say the chances of getting hit like that are extremely low. That's why I don't worry when my kid is pitching.

No question. But people are over-reacting.
According to MLB statistics there have been over 521,000 pitches thrown and over 31,000 balls hit. So this season someone had the opportunity to be hit, by a bean ball or line drive, over half a million times. So, 5 have been hit in that fashion. That's 1 in a 110,000 chances, or a .0009% chance. I'll take those odds.
