Formed in 1980 as Killer, they changed their name in 1983 to Genghis Khan due to their already being a Belgian Killer and a Swiss Killer. The new name was taken from one of singer Alan Marsh's previous bands. Though that band was no longer active, his former band mates didn't appreciate him using the name, so after only a few months they changed their name again to Tokyo Blade. The original Killer lineup of Alan Marsh (vocals), Andy Boulton (guitar), Andy Robbins (bass), Ray Dismore (guitar) and Steve Pierce (drums) remained the same through the first two Tokyo Blade singles.
Marsh and company recorded one demo and two 7” singles under the Genghis Khan moniker. The singles were originally released in 1983 as a twin pack titled Double Dealin. Musically they were moving in a slightly more melodic style, incorporating elements of Def Leppard and Heavy Pettin into the Iron Maiden like sound they established as Killer. After changing their name to Tokyo Blade, the leftover copies of Double Dealin were re-labeled with their new name and released as two separate singles (If Heaven Is Hell and Midnight Rendezvous).
