SAM has a cold

I think SAM has been feeling ill as of late. Its throwing in its own songs and song blocks quite often, especially during the day time, and its the same bands over and over.

WASP (though i do love WASP)
Ozzy
Dio (love Dio as well)
Sabbath
Bon Jovi
Queensryche
Motley Crue
Scorpions
Tesla
Whitesnake

And a few others i can not think of at the moment but these are the main players. When was the last time SAM randomly picked oh...Pretty Boy Floyd? Lynch Mob? um....Bitches Sin or the other thousands of bands on here that never get picked? I think SAM would do better if it reached back from the "This hasnt played in ages" list and pick a few of those.

So you can see that from my post last night of me trying to do a quick recall of bands that get played a lot, SAM picked a good number of those bands again this morning. It seems to be hell bent on playing those bands quite often.

I think SAM is programmed to pick bands that are popular - i.e. that are more requested by members. The thinking behind this is since people are requesting those bands they obviously want to hear them, so SAM pitches in.

If you want SAM to play other bands you are going to have to start requesting them more.

I do agree, however, that SAM is screwing with the blocks. He assigns different names than those who dedicated the songs, and he changes the order in which they are requested/played.

That could be very true and i understand that. However i think the frequency that SAM is playing these more popular bands is out of wack. It just put in WASP and Poison again and you can see the last time they played on the Whats Playing Now list, which means they just played eh..30-45 mins ago. With the number of bands and songs we have on here, that frequency is to much.

Agreed. I think the minimum amount of time between when a band can be requested again is 1 hour. SAM should be programmed the same.

I agree. Another problem is that the preferences in SAM seem to be based on artist, not album. That's why (as Ironskulls was saying elsewhere) we keep hearing crap from the newer Bon Jovi albums instead of the first few that are actually relevant to the station.

BTW, right now unrequested Ozzy, Sabbath and Poison are in the queue. I suppose the best solution is to just keep requesting songs so SAM can't pick anything!

Maybe it can't be done, but SAM picking songs by their rating seems to be the way to go. Higher rated songs would be picked more often, while lower rated songs would hardly ever be played.

Great thread identifying trends which have been duly noted by all of us.

I'd say that what we're doing today is one sure way of keeping the lesser liked tunes off the airways...don't let SAM have control!!!

Man there's been a lot of great requests today LOTS of which I've never heard and really enjoyed.

I dont think SAM is waiting for there not to be requests made or pending. I think ever X number of minutes it adds those bands regardless.

I requested this track as the closer for my South Texas Rock Fest set and, somehow, SAM inserted this as the 3rd track in a 5 track block...hmm.

I saw the new Queensryche tonight and they missed Taite. How couldn't they? They miss DeGarmo also believe me...

Still. Props to La Torre. His voice is truly remarkable and the band seemed to be having FUN!
