Welcome to butt rock Wednesday.

Don't hate the player...hate the game..Its like any day on KNAC back in the 80's when I lived in So Cal...

You guys had a channel back in the day that played all of that stuff? The one regular full time rock channel here in the Greater Baltimore area was 98 Rock, (still around) and those guys barely played anything or if they did, they played the same shit over and over. Most of their catalog was what is now considered classic rock, like Aerosmith, Zep and such, which, for me, was not interesting. Currently, to hear a good song from them you have to sit through endless Nu Metal or Post Grunge crap to get to a decent song..and they still ignore most of the 80's stuff except for a "hit" now and again.
But back in the day, 97 Underground was a very low powered station out of a row house in Balto City, (for real, I was there once) and they kicked ass, although they were only on Friday afternoon until Sunday evening. I was fortunate enough to live outside of the city, but at a higher elevation so I could pick them up on the ol Pioneer receiver!
I ain't gonna lie either, I don't mind some "butt rock" (not sure what that means), or cheese metal sometimes, so works for me  :horns:

Russ, you might try KNAC,com. I seen the shirts on some SoCal nostalgia sites as well. Believe it or not, I still have a button and a couple of bumper stickers and window decals in addition to my shirts and baseball cap.

I spent two weeks in L.A. back in 1988 and during the night I would tape hours and hours of KNAC's music . That's how amazing it was. I tuned in online some years ago and it's a lousy station, Couldn't stand it for 10 minutes.

I agree bro. It's but a shadow of its former glory. In fact, when I started listening to Internet Radio, I started with KNAC.com. that lasted about a day 'til I found HR80s. This was 11 years ago.

Never had an all hard rock/metal station like KNAC or 97 Underground so I would always tune into metal shows on the various college stations around me (Nasty Habits on WERS, Metal Storm on WUNH, etc.) Closest thing we had was WHJY out of Providence which was about 50/50 classic rock and heavier stuff. The good news is they are still a decent station. Sure they play some nu-metal and post-grunge songs that I can’t stand. Also, the definition of classic rock has evolved to include bands like Pearl Jam and RHCP. However they will also play plenty of classic hard rock and metal: Priest, Sabbath, Van Halen, Guns N Roses, etc. Every night they have a Mandatory Metallica block, and once a week they play the House of Hair and a 3 hour show called the Metal Zone. The Metal Zone used to be a great place to hear stuff outside of the hits, but I stopped listening after the original DJ was killed in the Station fire.

97 Underground came back a few years ago as an online radio station.

www.97underground.com/

The site used to have a bunch of pics from the past but they don't seem to be there now, which is a bummer because they had a shot of the row house that had the second station location (I had forgotten the station at first had started at Dundalk High School in '82) that a friend and I went to, to pick up a cd stack he won in a contest. They had the station on the third floor and a pretty big antenna on the roof. When you are a metal head in the mid to late 80's this experience was surreal indeed, they were our heroes!

Still a good station to tune into and Rachel Logan (what a hottie!) will take requests be email or call.

***Oh and her past shows can be downloaded as a podcast (just saw this!!) so check it out!***

Here in New Jersey we had some great rock stations. In NY that was WNEW. 102.7. They played the major acts, (Aerosmith, VH, Zep etc.) Locally, in NJ, we had two. One was a college radio station that was killer, 89.5 WSOU! They played all the great bands at the time, Heavy Metal bands (MOD, Metallica, Anthrax, Iron Maiden etc. and hard rock/glam/hairbands Poison, Winger, Cinderella, Ratt, Tesla, Warrant, etc). Two was a station in Northern NJ 105.5 WHDA (still playing great stuff today) that was by and large the staff and on-air personalites that graduated from SOU (Seton Hall University). WNEW changed formats to new wave in the 90's and then faded out. Today classic rock can be heard on Q104.3.

That may not have been the best pick from these guys, was pretty laid back. I'll have to dig them up on YouTube to get a good fell for what they are all about.

If you want something heavier from the band, try this one:

Now maybe you’ll dream about the singer, Marta. That would be a bit more interesting!
